Wildlife official Sounds Like Builder

By Robin Leachman Lauderdale- by-the-sea

I am compelled to respond to the comment from Henry Cabbage, spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in your June 6 issue. He is quoted as saying, “It’s an unpleasant reality gopher tortoises are getting buried, and that’s something we care about. I really don’t see what we accomplish by becoming a nuisance to developers.”

I had to ask myself, is this guy really working for the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission? Sounds like he is more on the side of developers and not causing any waves with them than he is with gopher tortoises that are being buried alive! When any developer is going to be building anywhere that would logically be a site where gopher tortoises would be living, it should be common practice to relocate these creatures.

Maybe Mr. Cabbage should remember who is paying his paycheck and not worry about making nice with the developers.
